Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a strategic four-day visit to the United Kingdom and Maldives from July 23–26, 2025, aimed at boosting India’s diplomatic and economic partnerships with key global allies.

Day 1–2: UK Visit Highlights

PM Modi’s UK stop includes high-level discussions with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and King Charles III. The visit is expected to:

  • Formally sign the long-negotiated India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA)
  • Boost collaboration in defense, innovation, and green energy
  • Tackle cross-border security concerns including the extradition of fugitives and countering Khalistani extremism
  • Promote Indo-UK startup and business partnerships

“This FTA is a landmark step for both democracies to unlock trade potential worth billions,” noted India’s Commerce Minister.

Day 3–4: Maldives Visit Highlights

Following the UK visit, PM Modi will fly to Malé, the capital of Maldives, to participate as the Guest of Honour in the 60th Independence Day celebrations of the island nation.

This marks PM Modi’s third official visit to the Maldives, and his first under the presidency of Mohamed Muizzu. The agenda includes:

  • Strengthening India-Maldives maritime security cooperation
  • Launching talks on a bilateral Free Trade Agreement and investment treaty
  • Reaffirming India’s commitment to the Indian Ocean Neighborhood First Policy

Why This Visit Matters

This dual-nation tour is not just ceremonial — it’s a clear signal of India’s intent to deepen international ties amid evolving geopolitical shifts.

With Brexit behind and China’s growing influence in the Indo-Pacific, India’s smart diplomacy positions it as a strategic power broker in the region.
